Be Careful in What You Listen To

The world is full of bizarre happenings - divisions, hate and strife. You can feel the war in the atmosphere. Jesus has called us to stay in a place of overcoming, but how do we stay in a place of overcoming when we feel overwhelmed by all the evil surrounding us? News outlets, social network posts - all kinds of voices are vying for your attention. This is a season of great exposure of deceit, hatred, bigotry and strife. Jn.16:33 tells us, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world." Jesus has overcome, therefore we overcome.

 

Looking to Jesus, we overcome

Four years ago, March 3, 2013, I released a word of the Lord about how He was working to prepare the body of Christ to live in the midst of this division coming to the earth. The Lord always prepares His own to shine with His light during dark and evil days.

 

"The changes you are going through now are for critical times ahead; times of unrest and division. I am bringing a security into you now so that in times of upheaval you will not waver in the face of judgment or persecution. Doubts in your standing with me and doubts in being in a secure place with my love will be pulled out of you now for the earth will swell with division and arrogance against righteous decrees. The risings of a new wave of courage in my people will be released from a low place of humility into a high wall of passion and power in the days ahead. Be formed for this now so that there will be no lack of vision or perception about my love and your secure place in me. Give into the push of my hand, the comfort of my love that leads you into dark paths to take my light of deliverance. I will bestow mercy and grace in abundance over your path and your understanding will be enlightened and awakened for the steps ahead. Your feet will be placed securely and your light will possess the darkness of the shadows. The road to Emmaus brought awakening. There is a path, a journey, a road to bring awakening to my own this season."

 

A Road To Awakening

 The road to Emmaus was the road that two of the disciples were traveling on after Jesus was crucified. After Jesus' resurrection, Jesus joined them along this road, but the disciples did not recognize Him. The disciples had been told by two women that Jesus was resurrected, but they did not believe.  They were sharing their sorrow as they walked along the road. So much had taken place that they did not understand. "And He said to them, 'O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?' Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the scriptures." (See Lk 24:25,26) Jesus is sharing with them about Himself and they still don't recognize Him. The disciples were reacting in the midst of crisis the way many of us do, reasoning things out and magnifying the negative. Trying to understand why things are happening the way they are is full of human reasoning and man's opinion. This is our world! The clamor of voices is deafening. Jesus kept trying to get the disciples' attention on Him; He preached about Himself all day and they still didn't get it.  Jesus did not ease their pain by touching their souls because He was after their spirits. If emotions aren't healthy and stable, you will go wherever the atmosphere takes you. The disciples were consumed with doubt and despair. They could not see Jesus for who He was because their focus was on the wrong thing.

 

Breaking bread with Jesus

Jesus and the disciples had traveled all day and yet there had not been any awareness of who Jesus was.  As Jesus joined them for dinner and broke bread with them, they finally became aware that this man traveling with them was no stranger. This was Jesus.  The breaking of bread with family or friends is considered intimate fellowship as you share your heart with one another. You are focused on hearts and you become more aware. The disciples had done this with Jesus many times. Their focus came back to what gave life instead of all the voices around them.  They even said their hearts were burning while Jesus spoke to them. Their spirits were coming alive, but their hearts had been hardened by all the confusion, sorrow, and hurt around them. That happens to us too. The Lord is joined with us along our road, but we have to stop and hear what He is saying. Eat with him, desire to fellowship with Him over who He is.

 

Secure in love

 The Lord has been preparing us for this time so that we will stand in a secure, stable position going into darkness releasing His love. When you are not secure in God's love for you, you cannot love your enemies or those that stand against what you believe. You will find that you only surround yourself with people that are just like you.  Judgments tend to come quickly and opinions are thrown about that bring even more division and strife. God wants you to be free to love and the only way to do that is to know His love - not in head knowledge, but knowing from the heart. Heart-to-heart is when we recognize Him. The disciples faced hate and persecution and yet they asked God for more boldness to stand in His love. So many want to view and figure out the hate in someone's heart. When you know that the enemy hates Jesus, therefore he hates you - then you stop looking for answers. You will never figure out demonic structures and their reasoning. Evil hearts think differently, therefore be established in His love even when you are hated and misunderstood.

 

Paul the apostle had gone through great sufferings and hardships as he preached the gospel. How did he overcome all of this evil raging against him? Paul was secure in knowing God's love for him. His love will give you a power of endurance you won't otherwise have.  "Faith works by love." (Gal.5;6) In Eph.3:13-19 Paul declares, "I ask you, therefore not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory. For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

 

Being filled with His fullness

The only stability for Christians in the midst of evil is being filled with the love of God. You will have void and emptiness all around you, but when you are filled with God's fullness, you thrive. People will often speak out of their place of emptiness, and as they do, you have the opportunity to take the power of love into that dark place and release life and hope. Remember this: the enemy of your soul wants you and me to carry the spirit and attitude of whatever he is dishing out. If there is hate coming at you, he wants you to react with hate. If there is pride and arrogance, he wants you to react with the same spirit. 

You are of a different kingdom. Hear Jesus when He tells you about Himself. Stop listening to all the hate-filled voices and be filled with what God has provided for you. "Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good." (Rom.12:21) This is not the time to stop growing in faith, hope and love. This is the time to be on display with faith, hope and love. Release the power and hope of Jesus into this dark and confused world. Recognize Jesus, and He will give you mercy and grace everywhere the Lord takes you.
